In 2014-15, Kernel was launched as an annual magazine to showcase IISc’s major research contributions in the previous year.

From 2019 onwards, Kernel is being published by the Office of Communications as a monthly newsletter providing a snapshot of recent research at the Institute, including feature stories on large-scale initiatives and facilities, and profiles of diverse labs and groups.
